This time the voting is a bit different from last year switching back to the old format of (Divisions) namely Division one, two and three besides of the main National awards. The lucky winners among the readers too will be rewarded with prize money.
The two Peterites Santhush Gunatileka , Lakshina Rodrigo and Isipathana’s Sanjula Abeywickrema were the three leading contenders for the Sunday Observer/Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer title 2017 at the end of the 23rd week count.Gunatileka and Rodrigo were top performers for the Peterites during the school cricket season while Sanjula Abeywickrema of Isipathana also was among the runs for his school. The three cornered tussle was prevailing some time.
Santhush Gunatileka of St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya maintained his top position with a majority of 24,465 votes in the penultimate week’s polling (57,847)votes against his name while Isipathana’s Sanjula Abeywickrema with (33382) votes remained at the number two slot while Peterite Lakshina Rodrigo who polled in ( 28999) votes slipped down to third place in the division 1 category at the end of the 20th week count in the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year contest, 2017.
Santhush Gunatileka of St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya maintained his top position for another week with (49745)votes against his name while Isipathana’s Sanjula Abeywickrema with (31040) votes remained at the number two slot and Peterite Lakshina Rodrigo who polled in ( 28797) votes was at third place in the division 1 category at the end of the 19th week count in the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The yearcontest.
Santhush Gunatileka of St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya maintained his top position with (39,709) while Isipathana’s Sanjula Abeywickrema with (27,927) ousted Peterite Lakshina Rodrigo (26,437) to the third place place in the division 1 category at the end of the 18th week count in the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year contest 2017.
Santhush Gunatileka of St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya maintained his top position with (30,990) while Lakshina Rodrigo with 24,063 votes secured the second place in the division 1 category at the end of the 17th week count in the 39th Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year contest 2017.
Santhush Gunatileka of St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya made his way to the top spot displacing his colleague Lakshina Rodrigo by polling 21524 to Rodrigo’s 21350 with a slender majority of 174 votes in the division 1 category at the end of the 16th week count in the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year contest.
With Peterite Lakshina Rodrigo still on top, a close tussle for the second place between Peterite Santhush Gunatileka and Isipathana’s Sanjula Abeywickrema is on at the moment with Abeywickrerma creeping to the second place with a majority of 323 votes displacing Gunatileka to third place at the end of the 15th week count in the Sunday Observer/Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer contest 2017.

Lakshina Rodrigo of St.Peter’s College sprang into the lead once again polling 4635 votes after being placed second last week while his team mate Santhush Gunatileka was pushed down to the second place not far with 3991 votes at the end of the 6th week count in the Sunday Obserrver/ Mobitel Most popular Schoolboy cricketer Of The year contest.
There were two changes at the top in division 1 and division 2 as another Peterite took over the lead from Lakshina Rodrigo with a majority of 87 votes, and Piyumal Sinhawansa of St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala ousted Raveen Yasas of Devapathiraja College Ratgama in the division two category to take the top spot at the end of of the 5th week count of the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year Contest 2017.
Lakshina Rodrigo of St. Peter’s maintained his lead in the division one polling 2914 votes while his team mate Santhush Gunatileka sprang upto the second place polling 2720 votes and Piyumal Sinhawansa of St.Annes’ College Kurunegala shot up to the second place with 792 votes in the division 2 at the end of the fourth week count in the Sunday Observer obitel Schoolboy Cricketed Of The Year Most Popular players contest.
Sanjula Abeywickrema of Isipathana College, Colombo took the third place in division one polling 928 votes and Piyumal Sinhawansa of St.Anne’s College from the ninth position in division two climbed to the fourth place with 539 votes at the end of the third week count in the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The Year Contest.
Lakshina Rodrigo of St.Peter’s was unmoved from the number one slot as he polled in 1687 votes at the end of the second week’s count in the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Most popular Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year contest division 1 segment.Santhush Gunatileka also from St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya climbed from last week’s number 8 to number 3 polling 506 votes Sammu Ashan of Ananda College, Colombo dropped to the number 4 slot with 438 votes.
Lakshina Rodrigo of St.Peter’s College Bambalapitiya took the lead in the division 1 school category in the first week’s count at the Sunday Observer/ Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer Of The year 2017 contest. Rodrigo a prolific scorer in the school cricket season and the Peterite skipper polled in 1168 votes to Avishka Fernando of St.Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa who had 546 votes.
